Eighty-two dead, 109 missing due to floods and landslides

Floods and landslides caused by torrential rains which effected the country during the past few days have resulted in the death of 82 persons, while 109 are reported missing as of this morning, the Disaster Management Centre reported.

According to the government assessments, 288768 people belonging to 71097 families are affected by floods and landslides as of the situation report issued by Emergency Operation Centre of DMC as of 23th May 2016. Out of the affected, 185933 people from 41460 families have been evacuated to 295 safe locations. About 506 houses are reported to be fully damaged and 3,995 houses partially damage by floods and landslides.

The DMC is coordinating response activities and rescue operations with the tri-forces, and the Police through District Secretariats and District Disaster Management Coordinating Units.
