About Hellabeem

The Hellabeem Foundation The Netherlands was founded in 2002 as a volunteer organization and raises funds for the long-term continuation of Hellabeem in Sri Lanka. Hellabeem is an internal training and rehabilitation center in the south of Sri Lanka for physically disabled and disadvantaged young people with mobility problems aged 14 to 25 years. As a secular organisation, everyone from different religious backgrounds can take part. These young people live on our campus for approximately 2.5 to five years.

Hellabeem empowers young people to overcome their disabilities and build an independent, dignified life. Core activities are rehabilitation, psychosocial support, education and sport.

In addition, we focus attention on their families and the local community. Our students give lessons to the neighborhood children. Girls and women can also stay for a short period at our campus for courses in food preparation, sewing, and introductory computer classes.
